Best Time to Visit Kedarnath

Only six months out of the year can pilgrims and visitors have access to Kedarnath. Because of the harsh winter weather in the Himalayas, the temple remains closed in winter. Let's have a look at the ideal times to schedule your vacation to Kedarnath.

Best Time (May to June)

Kedarnath will open on May 2nd this year. When deciding your Kedarnath trip plan, May to June is the ideal time of year because of the perfect weather, with daytime highs of 15 to 30 degrees Celsius. A clear sky will allow you to see the surrounding area and the tops of the mountains with great clarity. If you are considering a trip to Kedarnath around this time of year, make sure you reserve your package well in advance because this is also when the most tourists arrive.

Alternative Season (September to October)

The next best period to visit Kedarnath is from September to October. With the valley's stunning fall foliage, the daytime temperature stays comfortable, around 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. Around this time of year, the weather is generally clear, and because of the pre-winter temperature drop, there are fewer people there than during the summer. Therefore, September through October is the ideal time to reserve your Kedarnath Yatra package if you intend to visit Kedarnath later this year.

Things to Avoid in July and August

The Kedarnath temple is open from July to August; however, this is the rainy season. Paths become hazardous and slick due to strong monsoon rains, just like in any other hilly area. In addition, the likelihood of landslides and road closures increases during this time of year, increasing the likelihood of trip cancellations.

FAQs About Kedarnath Yatra From Haridwar

The best time to visit is from May to October. The temple remains closed from November to April due to heavy snowfall. June and September are the ideal months, we recommend booking your Kedarnath package at least 2-3 months in advance during the peak season.

The Kedarnath trek is moderately difficult, covering 16 km with an altitude gain of about 4000 feet. For senior citizens, it can be a difficult trek due to steep ascents and low oxygen levels; however, you can always opt (at extra cost) for ponies or palanquins to make it easier.

Our Kedarnath tour plan includes comfortable hotels in Rishikesh and Guptkashi and basic but clean lodges in Kedarnath and Badrinath. All rooms have attached bathrooms and hot water facilities. In Kedarnath, due to the high altitude, accommodations are simple but adequate, with proper bedding and heating arrangements.

Kedarnath Yatra involves a 16-kilometer one-way trek with steep ascents, which requires a great amount of time. Hence, a four-day itinerary is ideal to make the journey comfortable and have enough time to rest and trek.
